The Montessori School of Englewood

Kindergarten

Journey to Independence
5 - 6 years

As with all Montessori Early Childhood programs, our environments are scientifically designed to facilitate the child's growth. Our teachers are specifically trained to present lessons to individuals and small groups, developing the child's sensory-motor and socialization skills. These experiences lead to enhanced self-esteem, inner security, and increased concentration. The Extended Day afternoon provides a rich and rewarding experience for older children. In addition to our balanced Montessori program, our children have many opportunities to participate in science experiments, art, and cooking projects. Our nurturing environments ensure our students experience a sense of security, order, and independence.

A Prepared Environment

Every classroom is designed to foster an academically rigorous experience. Shelves and tables are set up to support access and encourage movement. Lessons and activities are neatly arranged and follow an outlined progression of difficulty. Art and photography reflect the children's community. All classes have a safe space following Conscious Discipline practices

Not a Classroom, A Community

Our students grow together into a close-knit, caring community. When children work, learn and grow together, they learn much more than any of them could learn alone!

Foundations for the Future

At the Montessori School of Englewood, students work with concrete representations of concepts through the work of the hand and the Montessori didactic materials. They move from the concrete to the abstract, and they learn to contextualize their knowledge through their lessons. Our goal for our kindergarten children is that they develop not only intellectually but also holistically. They acquire a sense of order, concentration, coordination, and independence.

A Beautiful Environment

Our bright and sunny toddler classrooms are specially designed for your child between the ages of 18 and 36 months. It is a world scaled down to your child’s size. Here, your child paints, cooks, waters the garden, sings songs with friends and plays with materials that develop fine and gross motor coordination.

Absorbing Language

We surround your child with rich and stimulating conversation to support this once-in-a-lifetime period of rapid language development. Your child, trying to blow bubbles, might be encouraged with “Blow! Can you make the air move just like the wind?” Your child’s mind effortlessly absorbs the new vocabulary, which plants the seeds for reading, writing and self-expression in the future.

A Joyful Experience

Maria Montessori once said, “One test of the correctness of the educational procedure is the happiness of the child.” Take a peek into our Toddler classroom and you will see children who are happy, engaged and deeply connected to their friends and teachers. As a result, your child develops a deep affinity for school and a true love-for-learning.

Ready to Move Up

Montessori is a continuum of education that allows your child to build upon experiences each year. During your child's stay in the Kindergarten Program, the seeds of learning come to fruition. Reading and writing come to life from sounds and symbols. She is introduced to numbers and the decimal system. She learns about geometric figures and the political countries of our world. She leaves the program with a strong set of academic skills; but, far more importantly, with the attitude that learning is fun, exciting and boundless. At this point, she is ready to move up to the Elementary Program, for children from the ages of 6 to 12.

If you think your child would thrive in a Montessori environment, give us a call or schedule a tour online. We would love for you to visit our school and learn more.
